2010
Summer Basketball
As many of you already know, we have been
working hard to get a YMCA summer basketball
program started this year. Everything has
been finalized and registration is now under
way!
All of the
information you need can be found on our
basketball web site:
www.quickscores.com/jamestownymca
Registration
forms and the information flyer are
available on the web site via the downloads
tab. Players may register as individuals or
as whole teams. Unlike our winter league,
there is not a draft process to put
together teams.
The
registration deadline seems pretty near in
the future, but in my experience, no one
registers on time anyway, so I'm not going
to fight with a deadline 4 or 5 days before
the league is supposed to start.
I realize
summer time is BRUTAL for getting the social
calendars of your kids worked out with
soccer, baseball, softball, and who knows
what else, but I have done extensive
research to come up with the best days/times
for both boys and girls to play basketball
once a week.
Hopefully some
of you are interested in getting a team
together. The league is for 5th-8th graders.
Ifyou have any other questions my flyer
didn't answer, please let me know.
Thanks for your
time. And please help spread the word!

Power Rankings - 3/13/10
1) Red Bulls
- The Red Bulls proved they are the
top team in the 3rd & 4th grade division
when they knocked off THE ZONE in the
championship game. Their physical
style proved to be the key ingredient as
physical won over finess.
2) THE ZONE -
They finish the year in the #2 spot after a
tough loss in the championship game to the
Red Bulls.
2) Red Bulls
- They lost a close one this week to
Team Anderson, but they hold onto the #2
spot. Their physical play keeps them
in every game. Can they knock off THE
ZONE this week? This will be a matchup
of the Red Bulls toughness and THE ZONE's
finess.
3) Celtics - The Celtics finish the
year in the #3 spot and they definitely
deserve it. All four of their losses
came at the hands of the two top teams in
the league, the Red Bulls and THE ZONE.
A great year for the Celtics!
4) Team Anderson - They easily could
have been in the top three, but they lost
games to the Celtics and Lakers which hurt
their ranking. Team Anderson was the
only team that beat the Celtics and THE ZONE
once each. A great finish to the year
with a big victory over the Red Bulls.
5) Lakers - An up and down year for
the Lakers as they showed signs to be a
contender, but lost some close games that
they should have won. Great job
Lakers!
6) Falcons - They didn't win this
year, but they played hard and showed a lot
of heart. The Falcons learned a lot
this year and will be ready for action in
2011. Great year Falcons!

Rankings 3/20/10
1) Falcons -
As expected, the Falcons win the
Championship and complete their undefeated
season. They handled Warren and proved
that no one could contend with them.
Great season!
2) Warren
- They proved that they are definately the
#2 ranked team, but didn't quite have enough
fire power to overcome the Falcons in the
Championship. Excellent Year Warren!
3) Purple
Mania - After a heart breaking loss to
Warren in the semis, they finish the year in
the 3 spot. Great season Purple Mania.
4) Little
Ladies - They had the unfortunate task
of facing the Falcons this week in the
semis, but they had a great year.
Great Job Little Ladies.
5) Knights
- They finish the season in the 5 spot.
They had a disappointing loss last week to
the Little Ladies. The Knights
probably were the most improved team this
year in the division. Great year Lady
Knights!!
6) Falconer
Blue -
They vault over Panama and finish the
season in the 6 spot. They played
Warren tough this week, and I think Falconer
Blue had the most fun out of all of the
teams I watched. Great Job!
7) Panama
- They were undermanned but they always
played hard and were great sports on the
court! Great Year Panama!
8) Cassadaga

Rankings - 3/20/10
1) Tar Heels
- The Tar Heels completed their
undefeated season and claiming the 5th & 6th
grade championship. Their solid
starting five proved to be too much for the
rest of the league. Congratulation to
the Tar Heels!
2) Panama
Payne - They were just one or two pieces
short to take the Championship. They
played the Tar Heels tougher than anyone
during the year and this secures their spot
at #2. Great Job Panama Payne!
3) Bemus
Dragons - They started the year on fire,
but they faltered towards the end of the
year, but still finished in the #3 spot.
Excellent year Bemus!
4) Sixers - They made a nice run
during the playoffs, but couldn't quite get
past Panama Payne in the semifinals.
The physical play kept them in the running
and they finish the year in the top half of
the league. Great Year Sixers!
5)
Southwestern - They finish their season
in the number 5 slot. They had an up
and down year, but couldn't past their
physical games they were faced with.
They were lacking that tough and physical
kid to keep them in the mix.
6) Westfield
- They knocked off some good teams this
year, but couldn't seem to keep any streaks
going. They were hot and cold like
fire and ice. They fell in the final
rankings because they couldn't win the games
that counted most.
7) Frewsburg
- Up and down, marks the path for Frewsburg
this year. They have some talent, but
were lacking a couple of kids that would
have helped them get better and better.
8) Wildcats
- They have some talent, but Coach Jones
couldn't quite figure out how to utilize it.
9) Falcons
- They have finished the season as the #9
ranked team even though they did not win a
game. The game to determine who the
bottom spot was cancelled last week.
10) Panama
Eggleston - It is tough to take a small
region such as Panama and create two teams
that can compete in this league.

Rankings - 3/20/10
1) Warren 1

Warren 2 was their only challenger all year
and they breezed through the league to
capture the championship. Awesome Year
Warren 1!
2) Warren 2

short to their cross-town rivals. They
finish the season as the clear cut #2 ranked
team. Great Season Warren 2!
3) Pine
Valley - The Lady Panthers finish the
season as the #3 ranked team and deservedly
so. They gave the top teams all they
could handle and they beat the teams they
should have beat. Congrats on a good
season!
4) Fredonia
- They ran into Warren 1 to end their
season, but they had some highlights this
year that should not be overlooked.
They still finish in the top half of the
league and that is something to be proud of.
Great Year Fredonia!
5) Westfield
- They finish the season in the #5 spot.
They nearly upset Warren 2 this week, but
didn't have enough fire power to close out
the game. Great Season Westfield!
6) Panama
- They fall a spot in the rankings, because
they got upset in the opening round of the
playoffs. This team showed a lot of
promise throughout the year, but could never
get over the hump. Good Job Panama.
7) Frewsburg
- A tough matchup this past week against the
up and coming Pine Valley team. Great
Job Frewsburg!
8) Falconer
- Every season, one team must finish at the
bottom of the rankings. This year it
was Falconer, but not because of lack of
motivation. The Falcons notched out a
win this year and got better each week.
Good Job Falconer!

JASZone Power
Rankings - 3/20/10
1) Tar Heels
-
Zack Panebianco & Company completed
their undefeated season with a big win over
Da Bears to secure the Championship as well
as the #1 ranking. A tough team with
lots of skill and finess. The proved
who is king! Congrats Tar Heels!
2) Da Bears
- They put up a fight agains the Tar
Heels for the Championship, but they were
short by a man or two on the matchup.
They proved they can hang with the best and
finish at the #2 spot. Great season
Bears!
3) Cardinals
- They lacked the consistency to make a
playoff run. They finished the
playoffs playing well, but they had some
bumps in the road along the way. Oldro
is the real deal and the Cards have a
promising future. Good Job Cardinals!
4) Panama -
They had a rough game in the consolation
game, but they still hold onto the #4 spot.
Bryce Payne couldn't find an answer for
Oldro, to get them into the top 3.
Good Season Panama!
5) Cavaliers
- Graham Davis tried to carry the load,
but awaiting the arrival of his new baby
sister was on his mind, and they got knocked
out in the semis. Good season Cavs.
6) T-Birds -
While they are seeded 7th, I have them
as the 6th ranked team. I think if
they put it together, they are a team to be
reckoned with. They will take on
Panama Payne and they could give them a run
for their money if they can shut down Payne.
7) Bemus
Point - They haven't quite put it
together this year and now they are in a do
or die situation. The take on Da Bears
in opening playoff action.
8) Blue
Devils - They should be OK against Soul
Pepper in the opening round, but they will
have to come back the next day and try to
contend with the Tar Heels.
9) Soul
Pepper - They need to step up to knock
off the Blue Devils in opening playoff
action. They are in a tough league and
they are still seeking that elusive first
win.
