District 7 Tournament Action

2010 District 7 10U Champions - Jamestown

The Jamestown 10U team found themselves in a hole after losing their opening game to Southwestern 10-1.  The team had just learned one day earlier that they would be playing the biggest tournament of their lives without their starting shortstop and four of their players would be playing new positions due to the departure.  Southwestern came out hot, hit the ball hard and never looked back.  Jamestown then fell to the losers side of the bracket which is tough to dig your way out of.  Jamestown then bounced back when they faced the Jamestown 9U team and walked away with a 13-3 victory, but still did not look sharp.

The table was then set for the rematch against Southwestern who lost the night before against the Evans 10U team 10-9.  The game started slow, but in the 3rd inning the Jamestown bats got hot and Jamestown never looked back as they eliminated Southwestern with a 10-5 victory.

This set up the undaunting task of trying to beat Evans in two straight games.  Evans is a solid team with great fundamentals and a very resilient team year in and year out.  It was an epic see-saw battle that saw the lead change throughout the game. Knotted at 7 at the end of 6 innings, Evans took the lead in the visitor's side of the extra inning 7.  Trailing 7-8 in the bottom of the 7th, it was James "Cookie" Rojas who hit the "walk off" double to center field to secure the victory for Jamestown.

The Championship game was next up.  Jamestown got out to an early lead, but Evans never gives up and they kept it close until the bottom of the 5th inning when Jamestown scored 4 to take a 12-8 lead and never looked back.  Jamestown had completed the unimaginable, won 4 in a row capped by a double header win against one of the top 10U teams in Western New York.

2010 District 7 12U 60' Champions - Southwestern

The Southwestern Gladiators are a very good 12U team with a great pitching staff, a solid defense and a loaded lineup at the plate, anchored by Jared Drocy who likes to hit it deep and hit it often.  Drocy belted 3 home runs out Bergman Park in just two games.  It was highlighted by a "monster hit" that cleared the pine trees past the left field fence.

In their first game against Jamestown, their pitching staff held Jamestown to five hits and only walked three batters.  The 4th inning was the key as the Gladiators exploded with 7 runs on 6 hits.  The final was 15-5.  Southwestern would now wait to see who they would face for the Championship as Jamestown would take on Mayville.

Jamestown defeated Mayville for the opportunity to face Southwestern.  This time, Southwestern had all of the pieces in place as Patrick Mogenhan shut down the Jamestown offense allowing just two hits and zero runs in 4 innings pitched.  Mogenhan was also hot at the plate going 2 for 2 with a triple.  Drocy also smashed another one out of the park.

2010 District 7 12U 70' Champions - Jamestown

There were only two teams in the 70' Division of 12U baseball, so it was going to be a best two out of three to determine the champion.  Evans was here and ready for action.

The first game Jamestown got put in their place as Evans played great defense and pitched well.  Jamestown fell 2-1 under the lights as they got a late start due to the later early games.

The second game showed the potential of Jamestown with solid pitching from Derek Foe and some timely base running by the team to help them earn a 7-2 victory.

The championship game had Jamestown coming out on top with the ability to pitch a "bunch" of pitchers and not lose any quality.  Kyle Liuzzo was the leader at the plate that helped cap off the championship.

Day 4 - Jamestown 10U won the 10U District 7 Tournament by beating Evans in back-to-back games 9-8 and 13-8.  In the first game, James Rojas led Jamestown going 3 for 4 with a double and Noah Caruso went 2 for 2 with a double.  In the second game, Wilmari Guzman led the way going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a triple.  Seth MacTavish had 3 hits, Drew Boggs had 2 hits with a double and Noah Caruso added 2 hits.  Evans 12U 70' defeated Jamestown 12U 70' 2-1 in a pitcher's dual.  Andrew Latona and Derek Foe each had double for Jamestown.

DAY 3 - Southwestern won the 12U 60' District 7 Tournament by beating Jamestown 10-0.  Patrick Mogenhan tossed a 2 hitter.  Jared Drocy belted his third homerun of the tournament.  In 10U action, Jamestown got past Southwestern 10-5. PHOTOS Jamestown will now take on Evans today at 3pm.  Jamestown 12U 70' will take on Evans tonight at 8pm.

DAY 2 - The District 7 Tournament continued Wednesday as Jamestown 10U defeated Jamestown 9U 13-3, Southwestern 12U 60' defeated Jamestown 12U 60' 15-5 (pics) and Evans 10U defeated Southwestern 10U 10-9.  Jamestown 12U will play today at 2:30 against Mayville and Jamestown 10U will take on Southwestern 10U.  The evening game will feature Southwestern 12U 60' against the winner of Jamestown-Mayville game this afternoon.

DAY 1 - The District 7 Tournament started Tuesday afternoon at Bergman Park where the Southwestern 10U team defeated Jamestown 10U by the score of 10-1 to advance on to face Evans 10U who defeated Jamestown 9U 17-4.  In the 12U 70' Division, it was Jamestown who knocked off Mayville 9-7.  Jamestown will now take on Southwestern at 5:30pm today.

JASZone Majors Division
Power Rankings 7/1

#1 - Rockies -  A gritty win in the championship game makes the Rockies your 2010 SWAS Majors Champions!  Solid pitching and timely hitting won the day against the favored Pirates.

#2 - Pirates - A great season at 13-3, but unable to finish it off against the resiliant Rockies.  Congratuilations on a great regular season to Coach McQueen and the boys.

#2 - Mets - With solid players at all positions the Mets were a teram to be recconed with all year.

#4 -Astros-  They surged at the end with an upset victory against the Mets.  Lost a close one to the #2 seed Pirates in the playoffs.

#5 - Marlins - Season ended with a tough playoff loss to the Astros...just got outlasted in the end.

JASZone Minors Division

#1 - Orioles - 12 straight games, 12 straight wins. Snyder, Joslyn, Ferrari lead the way on the mound and at the plate.

#2  - A's - Jump to number two spot with a recent win over the Red Sox.  Can thery sneak out a win in the playoffs to upend the O's?  Stay tuned.

#3 -Red Sox - A minor set-back against the now-tough A's drops them to 3rd place.  Pitchers Heil and Burns will have to step up in the playoffs.

#4 - Yankees - Still struggling to find their first win, but plugging away.  Can Cammarata, Gerace and Delahoy break into the win column?
