Awards Banquet Information:  2008 Spartan Football Awards Banquet will be held Monday, November 10th at 6pm at the Celoron Legion. Prepaid reservations are a MUST and can be made with Joni, Marge or Kristin before October 18th.  Players and cheerleaders are free, Adults $13 and brothers and sisters are $10 each.  Cash or checks made payable to Southwestern Spartans.

10/18 - Northside JVs defeated Southwestern JVs 25-20:  Zac Kinsey led the Northside Warriors to a victory over the Southwestern Spartans in the JAMFL Playoffs.  Coming into the game, Northside was the #2 seed and Southwestern #4.  Northside was trailing 19-20 late in the 4th quarter.  With less than a minute left, Northside faced a 4th and 7 near mid field when Noah Johnson gained 10 yards on a bootleg to keep the drive alive.  Southwestern then dug in their heels and held Northside to 3 yards on their next three attempts.  On 4th and 7 with 20 seconds to go in the game, it was Zac Kinsey again who saved the day spinning and cutting his way down the field for a 25 yard touchdown run.  Kinsey finished the day with 27 runs for 273 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Tyler Coulter led the Northside defense with 12 tackles while Dylan Pratt, Tommy Wofford and Richard Williams also turned in outstanding defensive performances.  For Southwestern, Nick Cooper, Ben Burk and Jared Drocy led the offense and Jarrett Yuchnitz and Mitchell Hartweg led the defense.  Northside now will face Westside next week for the JAMFL Championship.

10/11 - Southwestern JVs defeated Fredonia JVs 32-12:  The SW Spartans JV team secured a spot in the JAMFL playoffs with a 32-12 victory over Fredonia.  The Hillbillies got on the board early with an impressive opening drive to go up 6-0, but the Spartan defense tightened giving up only another 6 points the rest of the way.  The D was led by Ryan Hetrick with 17 tackles and a game-changing fumble take-away, Dale Linkous with 17 tackles and Josh Hogue and Jake Brecht with 8 tackles each.  On offense Nick Cooper was the work-horse with 112 yards and 3 TD's.  Ben Burk had 52 yards on 3 carries and a TD, Jared Drocy with a TD and Jarrett Yuchnitz rounded out the scoring on 56 yards.

10/4 - Southside JVs defeated Southwestern JVs 40-20:  Devan (Thunder) Jackson led a balanced Southside rushing attack with over 200 yds rushing 3 touchdowns and 2 extra points. Nick D'angelo had 18 carries for 100 yds and  extra points. while Corey ( Lighting) Jackson had 130yds and 2 touchdowns in the first half. On the defensive front it was a total team effort which was lead by Nick Dash and Matt( gus)Caldwell with 8 solo tackles a piece. Jared Drocy and Nick Cooper led the Southwestern balance attack through the ground and air respectively.

9/20 - Southwestern JVs defeated Dunkirk JVs 42-19:  The Southwestern Spartans JV's defeated the Dunkirk Marauders on Saturday on Charles A. Lawson Field at the new Southwestern athletic complex.  A tenacious Southwestern defense forced 3 turnovers in the second half of the game which allowed the Spartans to cruise to an easy 42-19 victory.  Jared Drocy connected with Ben Burk on touchdown passes of 34 and 42 yards.  Nick Cooper lead the Southwestern ground attack with 14 carries for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Jarrett Yuchnitz added 115 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.  Dale Linkous and Ryan Hetrick lead the Spartan defense with 10 tackles apiece.  Nate Priester and Brendan Kennedy each added 7 tackles.

9/13 - Northside JVs defeated Southwestern JVs 20-19:  Northside JV's came back and held on to defeat Southwestern JV's 20-19.  In addition to 64 yards rushing, Noah Johnson scored the go ahead extra point.  Zacc Kinsey scampered for 175 yards and two touchdowns, while James Rohas piled up 72 yards and a TD.  Defensively, the Warriors were led by Tommy Wofford with 7 tackles, Tyler Coulter and Richard Williams. 

Southwestern's Nick Cooper scored two TD's while rushing for 143 yards, and his team mate Jackson Rybicki added 111 yards.  Jarrett Yuchnitz also had a TD.  Defensively, the Spartans were led by Ryan Hetrick with 12 tackles, and Nat Priester and Dale Linkous with 6 tackles each.

9/6 - Southwestern JVs defeated Cassadaga JVs 42-0:  The SW Spartan JV team scored a decisive victory over the Cassadaga Cougars at Packard Field Saturday afternoon.  The Spartans threw a shut out on defense led by Ryan Hetrick (11 solos, 2 sacks), Dale Linkous (11 solos, 1 sack), Eric Priester (7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery), and Josh Hogue (16 solos, 1 Fbr).  On offense the Spartans rolled up 422 yards with scores by Alex Sullivan, Jackson Rybicki, Nick Cooper, Ben Burk, Jarret Yucchnitz and a throwing score by Jared Drocy.  The offensive line dominated all day and was led by Donald Dean and Nolan Emerson.

 

8/30 Southwestern JVs defeated Frewsburg JVs 21-18:  The SW Spartan JV Team held on for a 21-18 win at Frewsburg High School.  The Bears put up a great effort in the game as both teams scored 3 TD's, all in the first half.  SW defense came on in the 2nd half with solid plays by Jake Brecht, Maddie Sullivan, Nate Priester, and Brandon Kennedy.  Kennedy fell on a fumble in the Frewsburg end-zone in the first half to open the scoring, and Nick Cooper, and Jackson Rybicki rounded out the scoring for the Spartans, with extra points being the difference in the game.  O'Brien scored all three TD's for the Bears on runs of 60 plus yards.
