Jamestown Area Midget Football
Big Changes In 2010
For JAMFL
Jamestown Area
Midget Football League will be making some
big changes for the 2010 season. The league
will be expanded to include 7 and 8 year
olds for the first time. The weight limits
(with one exception) will be dropped. These
changes are being made to conform to what
the rest of the United States is doing.
Under the new
rules there will be 3 divisions – 7-8 year
old, 9-10 year old, and 11-12 year old. The
7-8 year old division will be an
instructional division to teach the basics
of football. This will give the players two
extra years to learn the basics to carry
into the public school program. There will
be no officials at the games and the score
will not be kept. It will be run like
a scrimmage with each team getting so many
plays from the 50-yard line.
The 9-10 year
old and the 11-12 year old will be run like
the Junior Varsity and Varsity are done now.
The only new rule in these divisions will be
the “No weight limit” rule. The only
exception will be a 12 year old who is in
the seventh grade. They cannot weigh over
125 pounds because at that age they can play
modified football for the Middle Schools.
There will be weight limits for skilled
positions, but non-skilled positions have no
limit.
The 8 year olds
and 10 year olds can move up a division if
the coaches believe they are ready to
advance. The only exception to this being if
a team does not have enough players to field
a 7-8 year old team, then 8 year olds cannot
play. There will be no moving down a
division (example: an 11-yeasr old cannot
move down to Junior Varsity).
The 7-8 year
old division will consist of anyone born
between 11-01-2001 and 10-31-2003. The 9-10
year old division will consist of anyone
born between 11-01-1999 and 10-31-2001. The
11-12 year old division will consist of
anyone born between 11-01-1997 and
10-31-1999.
Registration
will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 and
Saturday July 17, 2010 at The Jock Shop.
Times will be announced later.
